Belarusians have created a petition with a request to the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus to conduct an inspection and impose disciplinary sanctions on Viktor Chaichits, the chairman of the Belarusian Republican Bar Association (BRBA) for abuse of power, as well as misuse of funds.

The fact is that Viktor Chaichits signed a resolution on the allocation of 3,000 rubles to the KGB Officers’ Assembly to provide material assistance to the family of Dmitry Fedosyuk, the deceased KGB officer.

The resolution of the BRBA dated 28.12.2020 «On approval of the estimate of income and expense of the Belarusian Republican Bar Association for 2021» says that material assistance is provided only for: lawyers, hired personnel and veterans of the bar.

In addition, the amount of material assistance allocated to the family of the deceased KGB officer (3,000 rubles) is equivalent to half of the total amount provided by the BRBA estimate for 2021 to material assistance to lawyers (6,000 rubles).

The authors of the petition believe that the allocation of funds from the BRBA to provide material assistance to the family of the deceased KGB officer contradicts local legal acts, may contain signs of power abuse by officials, and also be an inappropriate expenditure of BRBA funds. The petition will be sent to the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus.

We remind that on September 28, security forces broke into one of the apartments on Yakubovskogo Street, 29. Its tenant, Andrei Zeltser, a 32-year-old EPAM Systems employee, met them with a shot from a hunting rifle and was mortally wounded in response. KGB officer Dmitry Fedosyuk with the call sign Nirvana also died from his wounds. In retaliation for the death of a KGB officer, Major General Oleg Belokonev, the former head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Belarus, proposed to kill 100 people.
