In a conversation with Jean-Yves Le Drian, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of France, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya stressed:

  • trafficking in political prisoners should not be allowed, all political prisoners should be released and rehabilitated;
  • diplomatic isolation of the regime should be continued, ambassadors should in no case transmit credentials, legitimize the regime or its actions;
  • it is important to continue to help the Belarusian society. One step could be to simplify visa procedures, including the issuance of humanitarian visas for those in need of urgent resettlement from Belarus, as well as the abolition of Schengen visas for Belarusians;
  • the issue of suspending Belarus' membership in Interpol should be considered and the resolution should be supported by the UN Third Committee on Belarus.
"It is very important that France, EU countries, all democracies speak with one voice, support Belarus in the international arena - in the UN Security Council, at the G20 summit",– Tsikhanouskaya said.

Minister Le Drian said that France supports the imposition of new sanctions against the regime. Also, according to him, France will continue to support Belarusian civil society.

After the meeting, Le Drian made an official statement:

"We will not tolerate brutal repression of the regime or acts of destabilization against our European partners",– he said.

Le Drian expressed solidarity with the Belarusian people, which is expressed in the support of the Belarusian civil society by the European Union, as well as in tough sanctions against the Lukashenka regime.

Last day, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with Frédéric Petit, the deputy of the National Assembly of France, who has repeatedly supported the Belarusian democratic movement, François Bayrou, the chairman of the European Democratic Party  and Gerard Larcher, the President of the Senate of France, and urged not to exclude Belarus from the European agenda.
