Aliaksandr Lukashenka sent congratulations to Xi Jinping, the President of the People’s Republic of China, on the occasion of the opening of the XXIV Winter Olympic Games 2022 in Beijing.

He expressed confidence that China will hold games without politics, in the glory of sports and at the highest level. According to Lukashenka, this is indicated by the fact that China pays special attention to a healthy lifestyle and has outstanding achievements in the sports sphere.

«Aliaksandr Lukashenka stressed that he recalls with particular warmth his visit to the Celestial Empire during the XXIX Summer Olympic Games in 2008, which amazed the whole world with its scope, organization and hospitality. The head of state reminded that China won the medal standings then, and Belarus showed one of the best results in history,» Lukashenka’s press service reports.

Recall that apparently, this year he does not get to the Olympics. His name is not on the list of heads of state who are invited to the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. In December 2020, the IOC decided to remove the leadership of the NOC of Belarus from all its activities.

In 2008, Aliaksandr Lukashenka was invited to the opening of the XXIX Olympic Games, which were also held in Beijing. These were were summer games, but this did not prevent Lukashenka from playing hockey.
