Sources of Motolko.help report that at today's 18th congress of the Republican State-Public Association "Belarusian Society of Hunters and Fishermen" (BOOR), Igor Shunevich, the former head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, was unanimously elected chairman (appointed).

The proposed appointment was reported last night by the «Posmotri, brekhnya?» Telegram channel.

The information about realignment at organization has not been officially published anywhere yet.

This means that now, about 80 000 members of the organization will be under control of the former Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Shunevich is well known for his homophobic statements, which he also published on the Ministry of Internal Affairs website. He is also remembered for wearing the NKVD uniform at parades.

Under his rule, the legislation on the «drug» Article 328 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus was toughened and the number of convicts increased significantly. People were detained for a photo with a sculpture of a towns man, which is located on the Gorodski Val Street in Minsk.

Shunevich’s resignation occurred in connection with the resonant death of a traffic DMV officer, when the security forces staged a pogrom in the Roma village of Grebenevo near Mogilev. Later, the Investigative Committee named the cause of death of Lieutenant Evgeny Potapovich as suicide, and journalists suggested that Shunevich apologize to Roms, but Shunevich aggressively replied that he had no reason to do so.

Instead of Shunevich, Natalia Kachanova went to Roms with an apology, and he was soon dismissed from his post.

After leaving the ministerial chair, Shunevich held the post of general director of HC Dinamo-Minsk until May of this year.

The previous chairman of BOOR was Yuri Shumsky. BOOR is a public association that is the largest leasor of hunting and fishing grounds. At the moment, there are about 80,000 people there. Participation in this organization allows its members to save on the cost of vouchers to their lands. Participation in the BOOR for hunters is not mandatory and does not give the right to store weapons.
