Thaine Lyman, the head of Minsk studio Wargaming Mobile, wrote a letter to employees about a “difficult decision”, where he said that the company was going to remove the emoji of the national white-red-white flag from the corporate Slack icon list. Lyman suggests that in the event of a search of an employee’s house or when crossing the border, a person may be arrested because of the emoji.

English version of the letter / dev.by

“Given current regulations in Belarus, we are going to be removing the “white-red-white” flag icon from our Slack icon list. The legal issues and associated risks that may affect our employees (especially given possible searches during border crossings and other potential interactions with law enforcement personnel) are too great to ignore”,– Thaine Lyman wrote.

It becomes clear from the text that the company fears that while crossing the border, a person may have his/her equipment and working correspondence inspected .
