In an interview with the BBC, Alexander Lukashenka told when he is ready to sit down at the negotiating table with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya. A video version of the conversation is published on the YouTube channel of the BBC Russian service.
BBC journalist Steven Rosenberg in his interview asked Lukashenka whether he would listen to Vladimir Putin’s wish to hold a dialogue between the official Minsk and the opposition. To this, Lukashenka replied that Putin personally did not advise him to do this.
Lukashenka also said that he would be ready for a dialogue with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya on one condition — when Russian President Vladimir Putin talked with opposition leader Alexei Navalny. «As soon as Putin and Navalny start negotiations, I will immediately start negotiations with Sviatlana»,– Lukashenka explained. At the same time, he noted that he considers Navalny a corrupt person: «He is not an opposition figure for Putin, he is a traitor to the interests of Russia».
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, commenting on Putin’s appeal, stressed that negotiations with the authorities would be possible only after the release of all prisoners.
