Today, Aliaksei Lazarau (nickname Vuzh), a Belarusian ex-volunteer of the Kastus Kalinouski regiment, wrote on Twitter that the Ukrainian migration service denied him a residence permit. They didn’t even accept the documents.

«There is only one country where Belarusians will be accepted. But there is a nuance,» Aliaksei joked sadly.

He clarified that his wife Veranika Yanovich was denied refugee status. Veranika is also an ex-fighter of the Kalinouski regiment (nickname Son). The situation is even more complicated due to the fact that her passport expired in August. She can’t go back to Belarus to get a new one (volunteers there face punishment up to death penalty), and there is no possibility to renew it in the Belarusian consulate in the EU – without a visa and a passport they won’t let her out of Ukraine. It’s a vicious circle.
