Irina Lashuk, the Head of the Social and Humanitarian Research Center of BSEU, PhD in Sociological Sciences, Associate Professor, on the air of the state TV channel Belarus 1 spoke about the results of a survey on the referendum on the Constitution. It is noteworthy that the survey was conducted by phone.

It was reported that a thousand people took part in the survey, most of whom were aged 18-35 years (40.5%), another 36.8% — 36-55 years. The survey was conducted throughout the country, the largest number of respondents lived in Minsk — 26.7%, and the smallest in the Grodno region — 5.9%.

Based on the data presented, 62.1% of respondents expressed support for the referendum (43.8% — «support» and 18.3% — «rather support»). The need for amendments to the Constitution was stated by 63.1% (32% — «yes» and 30.4% — «rather yes»). People were also asked whether they planned to participate in the referendum, where 19.4% said they would definitely not participate, and 38.2% said they would take part.

23.9% expressed confidence that the referendum will lead to significant positive changes in the country. Slightly more (24%) respondents believe that the referendum will not affect the situation in any way, and another 26.3% think that we should expect minor positive changes. 3.9% said the situation would worsen. At the same time, it is worth noting that the Belarus 1 TV channel visually distorted the infographics, showing that the number of those confident in improving the situation is allegedly greater than those who believe that the situation will not change.

In addition, Nikolay Myslivets, the director of the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, said on air that before the referendum in Belarus, a large-scale sociological study is being conducted, in which about 10 thousand respondents participate in answering 24 questions. He has also said the study will be completed within the next few weeks. Apparently, we are talking about a sociological study conducted by EcooM together with the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences. We published a copy of the questionnaire of this study and conducted our online survey with questions from this answer form.

In turn, Gennady Korshunov, the former director of the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, in his Telegram channel commented on this information, saying that the sampling standard in Belarus is 1100-2600 people and this would be quite enough.

«So why 10,000? It seems simple – just for the magic of numbers. It’s like polling 10,000 is similar to getting 80% of the vote in elections. Or even 90%! According to such figures, it is clear how this study will take place — surveys at factories, enterprises, via labor unions, BRSM and Belaya Rus. It was already clear earlier what figures would be drawn there and get to the media. And now it is clear that there will be no adequate information that could get to the customer at all. It will just be nonsense», – Korshunov wrote.

The results of our survey will be published soon, but we can already say that more than 26,000 people have taken part in the online survey.
