On the occasion of the day of Solidarity with the Belarusian media, the German Embassy in Belarus and the head of the German Foreign Ministry spoke in support of Belarus.
The diplomatic mission recalled that today 33 representatives of the media sphere are in custody in Belarus for doing their job.
«Critical reporting is not a crime; it is a basic prerequisite for democracy. All those unjustly detained must be released. The Belarusian authorities are trying to silence independent media, using searches of offices and apartments, confiscation of equipment, blocking Internet resources, and recognizing media channels and organizations as «extremist.» They will not succeed. Germany will continue to support independent media in Belarus,» the Embassy states.
Annalena Baerbock, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, on her Twitter page thanked the representatives of democratic forces of Belarus for every-day courage in fighting for freedom.
Thank you @Tsihanouskaya, @by_kalesnikava, @PavelLatushka and many others for your relentless engagement and every-day courage in fighting for a free, democratic, safe and sovereign #Belarus. You are not alone in this. 1/3 pic.twitter.com/T78pd2BHxK
