The International Olympic Committee is in contact with Minsk regarding the suspension of Belarusian skiers Daria Dolidovich and Sviatlana Andriyuk from the competitions. The press service of the IOC announced this at a round table for the media, RIA News reports.
«We are in active contact with the Belarusian party to get a full picture of the current situation,» the organization stated.
17-year-old Daria Dolidovich and 22-year-old Sviatlana Andriyuk were suspended by the Belarusian Ski Racing Federation from international competitions at the end of December, their individual identification codes (FIS codes) were deactivated, and without them participation in international tournaments is impossible. Because of this, Andriyuk lost the opportunity to qualify for the Olympics in Beijing. The skiers believe they were suspended because of their political views. The International Ski Federation (FIS) has started the investigation of the incident.
