The Austrian publication OTS reports that at today’s meeting of the Council of Ministers, at the request of Alexander Schallenberg, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria, it was decided to replace the ambassadors of Austria in several countries, including Belarus.
It is reported that Aloisia Woergetter, the current Austrian Ambassador to Belarus, is promoted and is going to Strasbourg, where she will take the office of Permanent Representative of Austria to the Council of Europe. Ronald Sturm is appointed to the position in Minsk. It is known that earlier, Sturm was the Ambassador of Austria in “hot spots”, in particular in Tripoli, Libya.
According to historian Alexander Friedman, the choice in favor of Sturm says a lot about the perception of Belarus in Austria. However, the interest is caused not only by the background of the new ambassador, but also by the change of the head of the diplomatic mission, which is taking place amid the aggravation of relations between Minsk and Vienna.
It is also worth noting that at the time of publication, information about new appointments was not published on the website of the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Updated at 14:50: The information about the appointment of Ronald Sturm to Minsk has appeared on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Austria.
