Russian citizen detained for participating in Minsk protests

On January 27, Russian citizen Vera Tsvikevich, who has a residence permit in Belarus, was detained in Minsk, human rights activists report.

It is reported that the woman is accused of participating in protests in the summer of 2020 (Article 342 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus – organization and preparation of actions that grossly violate public order, or active participation in them). In August 2020, a photo of Vera Tsvikevich at the protests in Minsk hit the front page of Komsomolskaya Pravda publication.

In total, according to the Russian Embassy in Belarus, 346 Russians are serving their sentences in Belarusian prisons, 109 more are under arrest in a pre-trial detention center.
