The EU will not allow the regime in Belarus to convert the special drawing rights (SDR) allocated by the IMF in the equivalent of $923 million dollars, the National Anti-Crisis Management reports.
This was stated by Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security, in his letter. The reason for the blocking is the fact that this will be a violation of the established ban regulated by EU sanctions on the provision of investment services to the regime in Belarus.
In August, the IMF granted the illegitimate government of Lukashenka access to SDR (special drawing rights) worth almost $1 billion. And this is despite the introduction of four packages of sanctions and public condemnation by the West of what is happening in Belarus.
