The Ministry of Justice of Belarus filed a lawsuit with the Supreme Court to liquidate the public organization «Ahova Ptushak Batskaushchyny» (APB). The organization received the corresponding letter from the court. A representative of the organization is asked to appear in court on March 1 to prepare the case for trial.
The lawsuit states that the APB «under the guise of volunteering to save birds on the territory of the Republic of Belarus carries out extremist activities aimed at destabilizing the socio-political situation in the country.» Photos of the lawsuit are posted on the Facebook page of APB.
Claims against the APB arose due to the publication of information of a «destructive orientation», in particular the expression «Ptushki z narodam» [birds support the people – ed.] , the activities of the former director of the APB Viktor Fenchuk and the participation of the organization’s employees in protests.
The lawsuit of the Ministry of Justice says that the APB in its information materials «publicly expresses the idea of maintaining protest activity among people, using the expression «Ptushki z narodam», and also «publishes photographs of a destructive orientation, calls for actions that grossly violate public order.» The lawsuit also states that Fenchuk, who previously headed the organization until 2014, is among the employees of the APB.
«The Main Department for Combating Organized Crime and Corruption of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus reported that Fenchuk V.A. is the coordinator of projects implemented by the Public Organization «Ahova Ptushak Batskaushchyny», an active participant in the «protest» movement, who from August to November 2020 repeatedly took part in unauthorized mass events on the territory of Minsk, was an active participant in destructive telegram chats,» the lawsuit says.
It is also indicated that Fenchuk was brought to criminal responsibility under Article 342 of the Criminal Code (actions that grossly violate public order). Protest symbols were found during the search of the house and place of work. It is reported that there is information about the involvement of Fenchuk in the financing of persons detained for «committing crimes of a protest nature.» It is also indicated that he was a volunteer of one of the partner organizations of the public organization «Zveno» (liquidated now).
The lawsuit says that the employees of the APB were «active participants in unauthorized mass events», some of them were brought to administrative responsibility for this. On this basis, the Ministry of Justice asks the Supreme Court to liquidate the APB for carrying out extremist activities.
