Yesterday, Svetlana Tihanovskaya held an hour-long online stream about the coronavirus epidemic in Belarus, ways to save health and get a doctor's consultation online. The speakers discussed the real situation with the coronavirus in the country, exposed the statistics of the Ministry of Health and answered the questions from the audience. Andrey Tkachev, the Medical Solidarity fund Coordinator:
- The 4th wave of coronavirus is the hardest. And, unfortunately, the health care of Belarus did not draw the necessary conclusions from the first three waves, so the situation is deplorable.
- Even according to the fragmentary data from individual hospitals only, we can see that the statistics of the Ministry of Health are completely falsified. The real statistics of morbidity and mortality are ten times higher than the official one.
- At the same time, in the midst of the epidemic, highly qualified doctors are fired for likes and comments on the internet. According to our data, the Ministry of Health maintains a 'black list' of doctors with whom contracts are not renewed, dismissed, demoted.
- Due to mistrust on the state, many Belarusians don't want to be vaccinated with Sputnik. Although it is a good, working vaccine, as well as the Chinese Sinopharm.
Svetlana Tihanovskaya, the leader of the Belarusian democratic forces:
- Given the mistrust of Belarusians on available vaccines, we have been communicating with COVAX and the European Commission since March, they were ready to provide European vaccines to Belarus, but the help was rejected. We continue to try to deliver vaccines to Belarus, but it is very difficult.
Olga Sadovskaya, a doctor and the former clinical pharmacologist of the 6th Minsk Clinical Hospital:
- When during the first wave civil society helped doctors, now it is impossible to organize an initiative so that it is safe and effective.
- Doctors have learned to treat patients, but technical and pharmacological support is not enough. And in these conditions, doctors remain helpless.
- In fact, Belarusians have not received planned surgical care for a long time. Departments of clinics are repurposed for infectious due to COVID-19, so the queue for hip replacement can wait for a year or two.
- Over the past two weeks, 4 women in labor have died in Belarus. This terrible tragedy indicates that the system is running itself ragged.
- Covid doctors' allowance has been preserved in full, but the salary generation system is opaque.
- The vaccines available in Belarus are effective and safe. Their injection has never led to a fatal or severe outcome. Now vaccination is a way to prevent not so much the disease as its severe or lethal course.
Vladimir Svirkov, doctor and eZdorovye telemedicine project Representative:
- A huge number of medical questions do not need a face-to-face appointment. On our platform, people can get advice online for 5-10 minutes, without having to stand in a long line at the clinic, get infected with COVID or infect others.
- The platform was created to help repressed doctors who are not hired in Belarus because they were blacklisted by the Ministry of Health or were forced to go abroad. But we take the initiative of all doctors. Many have been living and working abroad for a long time, but they want to help patients from Belarus.
- On our platform, any patient can get help for free.
- We do not pay salaries to doctors, but we offer patients to make donations, which go to the medical solidarity fund and from there are distributed to our employees too.
- Without any second thought, we offer our platform for use by the official Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus, if only people would use it.
