Today, during his address, Lukashenka said that he gave an order to restore the sites designed for launching Topol mobile strategic missile systems, which were withdrawn from Belarus in 1996.

«I mean, I gave an order to the military a week ago to immediately, immediately restore the sites where Topols with nuclear warheads were deployed. This is an extremely technically complex construction in engineering terms. It is strictly tied to communications and so on. It doesn’t mean that there is some Topol, you stop, press a button, and a missile flies. They were all tied to these sites. I preserved all those sites he said.

In addition, he commented on Putin’s statement about the deployment of tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus and, contrary to the statement of the latter, hinted that the TNWs in Belarus will be under his control.

«We will preserve this sovereignty and independence and ensure it with everything we can, including the nuclear arsenal. And you don’t have to say today, ‘they’ll just store it, they’ll do something else, it’s not our weapon.’ This is our weapon that will contribute to sovereignty and independence!» he said.
