В Европарламенте призывают выдать ордер на арест Лукашенко: «из страны бежали 300 000 человек»
The Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament adopted a new report on EU relations with Belarus, with 49 votes in favour, 3 against, and 2 abstentions.
The report says that MEPs condemn the unabated repression and systematic human rights violations continuously committed by the regime in Belarus. The text says that there are over 1500 political prisoners, while «over 300 000 Belarusians have fled the country due to the crackdown» by the Lukashenko regime.
The MEPs call on the EU not to recognise any agreements made by the Lukashenko regime and Russia that cede the country’s sovereignty against the will of the Belarusian people. They say that the EU must also develop a common strategy for preserving Belarus’ independence and for Belarus’ transition to democracy, with the participation of international institutions, the OSCE, the Council of Europe and the G7.
The MEPs also call for tougher EU sanctions against the regime in Belarus and regret that some EU countries are lobbying for sanctions against Belarusian potash producers to be lifted.
In addition, MEPs call on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to consider issuing an arrest warrant for Lukashenko, as it was done with Putin and Russian Children’s Rights Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova.
