Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya condemned Russia’s decision to recognize the independence of the self-proclaimed «Donetsk People’s Republic» and «Luhansk People’s Republic.»
«Territorial integrity is the cornerstone of state sovereignty. Its blatant and repeated violation by Russia against Ukraine means a continued threat to regional security and growing instability in Europe. Belarus condemns this illegal move,» Tsikhanouskaya wrote on her Twitter page.
On February 21, Vladimir Putin said that Russia recognizes the independence and sovereignty of the «Donetsk People’s Republic» and «Luhansk People’s Republic.» The decrees signed by Putin entitle Russian troops «to perform peacekeeping functions» in the self-proclaimed republics until the signing of treaties of friendship and cooperation between them and Russia.
