The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China has published a list of honorable guests invited to the opening ceremony on the occasion of the beginning of the Olympics in Beijing. There are more than 30 names of heads of state in the list, but Aliaksandr Lukashenka and his son Viktar, the head of the NOC of Belarus, are not on the list, as they came under the sanctions of the International Olympic Committee.
Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the head of Turkmenistan, Emomali Rahmon, the president of Tajikistan, among others, have been invited to the opening ceremony.
On December 7, 2021, the International Olympic Committee decided to suspend representatives of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus from all its events, including the Olympic Games. In addition, the IOC pays scholarships for the preparation of Belarusian athletes for the Olympic Games not through the NOC, but directly to athletes.
