The Minsk City Court has sentenced political prisoner- blogger Eduard Palchys to 13 years in a prison colony of strict regime. The verdict was reached by Judge Piotr Orlov.

Eduard is charged under four articles of the criminal code. According to investigation, Palchys began criminal activity in 2016 and continued until his detention in September 2020. Human rights activists have recognized Eduard as a political prisoner.

He’s charged under articles:

  • Part 3 of Art. 130 (Incitement of racial, national, religious or other social hatred or discord committed by a group, resulting in other serious consequences)
  • Part 1 Art. 293 (Mass riots organization);
  • Part 1 Art. 342 (Organization and preparation of actions that grossly violate public order);
  • Part. 3 Art. 361 (Calls for actions aimed at causing harm to the national security of the Republic of Belarus).

Eduard Palchys was detained at the end of September last year and was sentenced  to 30 days of arrest under Art. 23.34 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, after which he was not released.

Earlier, Eduard Palchys was already recognized as a political prisoner — from January to November 2016. He was detained for publications on the website 1863x, a criminal case was initiated against him under Part 1 of Article 130 (incitement to racial, national or religious hatred or discord) and Part 2 of Article 343 (distribution of pornographic materials). In August 2016, the court of the Central District of Minsk recognized 9 materials of the 1863x.com website as extremist. On October 28, 2016, the blogger was sentenced to 1.9 years of restriction of liberty without referral to a correctional institution and released in the courtroom.
