Lawyer Natalia Matskevich, who defended political prisoners Siarhei Tsikhanouski and Viktar Babaryka at court, was expelled from the Minsk City Bar Association, she wrote about it on her Twitter.

On October 13, by order of the Ministry of Justice, Natalia Matskevich was suspended from her professional duties due to the fact that a disciplinary case was initiated against her.
Later, the lawyer told that the disciplinary proceedings against her are related to the defense of Viktar Babaryka.
«I wouldn’t like to comment in detail now on the grounds for initiating disciplinary proceedings for ethical reasons related to my colleagues who will have to make a decision on this matter. I can say that this concerns the implementation of my defense in the case of Viktar Babaryka during the preliminary investigation in June and July 2020, and on one of the days of April 2021 in court»,– Natalia Matskevich said in a comment to Mediazona.
Natalia Matskevich is one of the most authoritative lawyers in Belarus. She was the lawyer of presidential candidate Viktar Babaryka and political prisoner Siarhei Tsikhanouski, Gennady Fiadinych, the head of an independent trade union REP. She also defended other public figures in high-profile politically motivated cases: Nobel laureate Sviatlana Alexievich, anarchist Mikalai Dziadok, represented the interests of mother of a missing politician Yury Zakharenka, as well as the defendants in case of the so-called «White Legion» several years ago.
