Last night, the Kremlin’s RIA News reported on a statement by Konstantin Vorontsov, the deputy head of the Russian delegation at the UNGA First Committee meeting.

According to him, Russia is sending dual-equipped Iskander-M systems to Belarus and re-equipping some Belarusian Su-25 aircraft with the technical capability to carry nuclear weapons.

“At this stage, we are talking only about the sending of dual-equipped Iskander-M systems with missiles in conventional equipment to the Republic of Belarus, as well as giving some of the Belarusian Su-25 aircraft the technical capability to carry nuclear weapons. At the same time, it’s not expected to send the technology for re-equipping aircraft to carry nuclear weapons to Belarus,” the Russian diplomat said.

He also added that at the moment “it’s also not expected to physically equip Belarusian systems with nuclear warheads or to transfer such warheads to the territory of Belarus.”

We recall that Lukashenka first mentioned the re-equipping of Su-25 at a meeting with Putin on June 25. Later, in late August, he stated that the aircraft had already been re-equipped to carry nuclear weapons.
