The OSCE side-event on Belarus was held today in Warsaw with the participation of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and Volha Harbunova, a representative of the United Transitional Cabinet for social issues.
At the event, they announced about the creation of the Group of Friends of Democratic Belarus in the OSCE. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya called on the ODIHR and the OSCE Secretariat to demand access to political prisoners in Belarus, access to trials, and to help bring the Lukashenko regime to justice.
“A group of friends in the OSCE can help bring the Lukashenko regime and its accomplices to justice for crimes against Ukrainian children. I also ask to help Belarusians who fled to the EU to file criminal cases on the grounds of universal jurisdiction, define the types of crimes that can be prosecuted under the principle of universal jurisdiction,” Tsikhanouskaya said.
She also reminded the ODIHR that the so-called election in 2024 in Belarus would be a farce in a situation when human rights are not respected and there are no necessary conditions for their holding.
