Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya had a call with Michael O’Leary, the head of Ryanair, the Office of the Belarusian politician reports.
They exchanged the latest information on the incident with the Ryanair aircraft. Tsikhanouskaya called on O’Leary to publicly support the demands of Belarusians to continue investigating the incident.
The parties also discussed the indictment filed in the United States against two KGB officers and two employees of Belaeronavigatsia, who are charged with conspiracy to commit an act of aviation piracy. The CEO of Ryanair agreed that the detainees Raman Pratasevich and Sofia Sapega, as well as all prisoners for political reasons, should be released.
At the end of the conversation, O’Leary expressed support for the Belarusians and said that he would like to launch Ryanair flights in democratic Belarus.
Earlier, Tsikhanouskaya called on Salvatore Sciacchitano, the President of the ICAO Council, to send the report of the organization to the UN Security Council. On this occasion, she also contacted the delegations of the countries that are members of the ICAO Council.
On May 23, 2021, a Ryanair plane flying from Athens to Vilnius unexpectedly changed course when several tens of kilometers remained to the border, and landed at the Minsk airport. Allegedly, a bomb was planted on board. After landing, Raman Pratasevich and Sofia Sapega were detained. On January 17, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) presented a report on the incident with the Ryanair aircraft in the airspace of Belarus. The report should be considered at the ICAO meeting on January 31. On the air of Belarusian television, it was admitted that the report could be sent for a new investigation. Meanwhile, in the United States, the prosecutor’s office has already filed a charge of air piracy against four Belarusian officials.
