A classmate of the deceased Andrei Zeltzer, who gave an interview to a Komsomolskaya Pravda journalist, was summoned to the Investigative Committee, human rights activists report.
The woman is not in Belarus. She received a call to her foreign number from the Investigative Committee and was summoned for questioning as a witness in the «Zeltser’s case», who was her classmate. After his death she gave an interview to the journalist of «Komsomolskaya Pravda» in Belarus Gennadiy Mozheiko, in which she spoke positively about Zeltser.
The tragedy on Yakubovskogo Street in Minsk took place on September 28. The law-enforcers came to search Andrei Zeltser’s apartment. The owner of the apartment and the KGB officer Dmitry Fedosyuk were killed in the shoot-out. Zeltzer’s wife was detained. A criminal case was initiated. The General Prosecutor’s Office inspected the KGB officers’ use of weapons and found their actions lawful. In October it was reported that there were 136 suspects in the comments case.
Gennadiy Mozheiko was detained after his article was published, and access to the Belarusian Komsomolskaya Pravda (KP) website kp.by was restricted. On October 5, the editorial board of KP decided to close its Belarusian office, BelKP-PRESS. The journalist is suspected under two criminal articles – incitement of social hatred and insulting a representative of the authorities. He has been in custody for five months.
