Nasha Niva, citing social networks of the family’s friends, reports about the death of Eduard Lobau, a Belarusian volunteer, who was fighting for Ukraine.
Eduard Lobau was a former political prisoner. He was arrested together with Zmitser Dashkevich on December 18, 2010, before the so-called «presidential election» in Belarus. Later, judge Alyona Shilko sentenced Eduard to 4 years in prison in a fabricated case. The Young Front activist refused to write a petition for pardon and served the four-year sentence in one of the worst prisons in Belarus — a penal colony in Ivatsevichy called «Volchyi nory» [wolf holes].
According to Aliaksandr Malchanau, Eduard’s fellow soldier, the man was killed yesterday near Vuhledar, Radio Svaboda reports.
“He and his partner were “hunting” tanks with a Javelin. Then he got into close combat, personally destroyed more than 5 Russians. He received a shrapnel wound, and soon he died,” Malchanau said.
Eduard Lobau served in the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade. He participated in the liberation of Kyiv region and Chernobyl from the Russian occupiers. For the last few months, he was fighting near Vuhledar.
According to the media outlet, at least 18 Belarusians have died since the beginning of the war for independence of Ukraine and Belarus.
