Sijjjarto, who was a friend of deceased Makei, will meet with Sergei Aleinik, the new head of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Aleksandr Cherviakov, the Minister of Economy of Belarus.
We recall that in November 2022, Peter Sztaray, Szijjarto’s Deputy, the Minister of State for Security Policy at the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, secretly arrived in Minsk for Makei’s funeral.
We also note that he met with Makei in 2021. Later, in October 2021 in Athens, during a discussion with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, Peter Szijjarto said that the meeting with Makei did not mean that Hungary had stopped supporting Belarusians, and invited Tsikhanouskaya to Hungary for an official visit. The Minister said that Europe had done everything it could and couldn’t influence the situation.
