Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya congratulated Belarusian freestyler Hanna Huskova on her silver medal, the politician’s press service reports.
Hanna Huskova, who took second place today in the finals among 12 ski acrobats, previously signed a letter of athletes who advocated for fair elections in Belarus. Tsikhanouskaya wished Huskova many more medals and victories.
The politician also expressed her sympathy for the athletes who had to justify themselves against the background of the state flag for not winning medals (the NOC of Belarus has already published such videos of freestyle skiers Stanislav Gladchenko and Maxim Gustik, as well as skier Yegor Shpuntov). According to Tsikhanouskaya, the very practice of such videos humiliates human dignity.
«An athlete who does not win a medal does not become a ‘criminal.’ Defeats are also part of sport, and athletes should not make excuses for them,» the statement said.
